United NW MN INFOCON selected for National Recognition October 01, 1999
The United NW MN INFOCON, a technology consortium of 12 private and public schools in NW MINNESOTA has been recognized by the National Catholic Education Association and named one of 12 selected programs nationally for improving Catholic Education by "Forming Innovative Learning Environments through Technology", according to Regina Haney of NCEA located in Washington, DC.
The INFOCON is a unique collaboration of non-public and public schools in NW MN that has been formed to increase educational excellence through engaging and improving student learning through technology. The effort will provide more financial and human resources to schools in Northwest Minnesota and opens more funding opportunities for them to cover the high costs of implementing technology in rural schools.
The consortium members include: Climax- Shelly Public Schools, Win-E-Mac Public Schools, Red Lake Falls Public Schools, St. Phillip's School-Bemidji, MN, Cathedral School- Crookston, MN, Holy Rosary School- Detroit Lakes, MN, Sacred Heart Elementary School- East Grand Forks, MN, St. Michael's School- Mahnomen, MN, St. Joseph's School- Moorhead, MN, St. Mary's Mission School- Red Lake, MN, St. Joseph's School- Red Lake Falls, MN, St. Bernard's School- Thief River Falls, MN, Sacred Heart High School-East Grand Forks, MN.
As part of the national recognition, a team of three persons from the INFOCON will be representing the consortium and participate in "Conversations in Excellence 1999: Forming Innovative Learning Environments through Technology", at the University of Dayton, July 8-11,1999.
The INFOCON received a $5000.00 strategic planning grant from the NW MN Foundation and recently was awarded a $250,000.00 Technology Challenge Grant for teacher technology training in participating schools that will begin in the 1999-2000 school year at the University of Minnesota-Crookston. The INFOCON's mission is to provide a forum for sharing information and developing human and financial resources to build and maximize the use of technology in member schools.
